GRANDTEN DISTILLING ACADEMY
NOW ACCEPTING STUDENTS FOR OUR SPRING 2017 SESSION
This four week, hands-on, chemistry-driven distillation course is designed specifically for working bartenders. It is held on every Monday of the Month of May (1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd). The course is co-taught by Chemistry PhD and noted local distiller Spencer McMinn and Nick Korn, OFFSITE principal and so-called whiskey "expert." This dynamic duo guides students through an in-depth exploration of the distillation process in four modules: fermentation, distillation, cutting and maturation. WARNING: THERE WILL BE CHEMISTRY!
Each class meeting builds upon the previous module and is comprised of a mixture of hands-on activity, classroom learning, and tasting. Prospective students are expected to have a working knowledge of distillation and to be familiarity with tasting spirits.
GrandTen Distilling Academy boasts 70 grads from some of the best bars and restaurants around Boston and beyond (they are easily identifiable by their bright red OFFSITE notebooks, and their ability to talk at length about congeners). This will be the 8th Class; past sessions were held February, 2014; May, 2014; Nov. 2014; May 2015; November, 2015; and April, 2016, October 2016.
